Breaking Myths Surrounding Your Abs Workout

One of the biggest goals on our fitness goals?list are six-pack abs. Unfortunately its also one of the hardest goals to attain. A lot of factors affect your results. Such as diet, the exercises you perform regularly and the equipment you use. Lets examine a few key myths on your abs workout.

Abs Workout Myth #1 ?working out your abs consistently will give you a 6-pack.

Quite often, when new clients sign up to train with me they ask how they can lose fat on a specific body part, quite often their abs. We refer to it as pot reduction?and it a fairytale. If someone tells you they can show you how to lose weight on JUST one area, don give them anymore of your time. It simply not possible. You have to lose weight, on your entire body, for that specific area to achieve results. Another trick to attaining abs results, keep your core engaged as much as possible throughout the day. It will not only help gain you results but it will also strengthen your lower back.

Abs Workout Myth #2 - Your abs muscles are unique to other muscles

Too many people think they can do their abs workout daily, without rest and achieve quicker results. The truth is, just like all your other muscles, your abs also needs rest in between workouts. Ideally you should train your abs, hard, 2-3x a week. As well, don stick with standard crunches every time. Make sure you change it up and add a variety of exercises.

One of the best exercises for your core and abs are planks. When you start out, you might only be able to do them for 5-10 seconds. Focus on building that up to 30-45 seconds and maintaining good form.

Another good exercise is to lie on your back and lift your legs in the air. Bring them back down to the ground. If you find this exercise is hurting your back, you should stop right away.

Don fall into the trap of thinking those infomercial abs equipment will get you a six-pack quickly. It a gimmick. If you use good form and concentrate on muscle, not momentum, you can gain results just as quickly (or quicker). A good, low calorie diet and consistency will help get you there. All you need is a solid program to train your body 2-4x a week.
